Dinesh Karthik gets backlash on social media after fans find his joke 'distasteful'

Cricketer-turned-commentator Dinesh Karthik got backlash on social media after his comments on-air during the second ODI between England and Sri Lanka on Thursday (July 1).

Karthik, who was also part of the ICC World Test Championship commentary panel, was spot on with his humour until his attempt for a joke which fans found in bad taste during the 2nd ODI. 

During England’s run-chase, Karthik tried to joke how batsmen don't like their own bats. “Batsmen and not liking bats, they go hand in hand. Most of the batters don’t seem to like their bats. They either like another person’s bat, or…” he was quoted as saying.

After setting it up, he delivered the punchline and said, “Bats are like a neighbor’s wife. They always feel better." 

But the joke didn't go well and Twitterati felt it was unnecessary one-liner by Karthik, who's new to the broadcasting. Some admitted that they like listening to him on-air but he needs to be careful with his jokes.
