Coming to its history, the United Nations Assembly established World Environment Day in 1972. It was first observed in 1974 in the United States and various countries have celebrated it since then.

The theme for this year's World Environment Day is “Ecosystem Restoration” and the global host of this campaign is Pakistan.

Considering the significance of the day, India’s current and former cricketers such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, Ajinkya Rahane, among others shared insightful messages via micro-blogging site Twitter.

Indian cricketers have been out of action since the suspension of IPL 2021 due to COVID-19 crisis last month. They will be now taking the field during the World Test Championship (WTC) final against New Zealand in Southampton from June 18-22.
