India Women batter Veda Krishnamurthy has on Tuesday (May 18) thanked Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and secretary Jay Shah for calling her and providing emotional support during the tough times when she lost her sister and mother due to COVID-19 recently.

Veda and her family was struck by twin tragedies as her mother and sister passed away in the space of two weeks after contracting deadly Coronavirus.

On Monday, she took to Twitter to thank the BCCI’s efforts, and especially Mr. Shah for extending support in these unprecedented times having been bereaved twin losses in a fortnight.

Krishnamurthy wrote on Twitter, “Have been tough last month for me and family and I'd like to sincerely thank the @BCCI & Mr @jayshah sir for calling me a few days back and extending support in these unprecedented times. Many thanks sir @BCCIWomen,”

Veda’s comments came after former Australia cricketer Lisa Sthalekar criticized BCCI for not getting in touch with the cricketer during the time of her grief and overlooking her for the upcoming multi-format series comprising one-off Test, 3 ODIs, and as many as T20Is, against England next month.

Noteworthy, Veda’s father, brother, and her second sister, who live in Kadur, also had COVID-19 symptoms last month and later tested positive for the virus apart from her late mother and sister.

The 28-year-old had also visited her family in Kadur a few weeks ago but returned to Bengaluru as soon as the first symptoms of COVID-19 infection among her family appeared, as she isolated herself and later returned a negative test for the Coronavirus.
