The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday (December 28) conferred Indian skipper Virat Kohli with the Male Cricketer of the Decade and Men’s ODI Cricketer of the Decade awards.
Kohli bagged the Male Cricketer of the Decade honour for scoring 20,396 runs across three formats of the game in the last 10 years. During this time period, he averaged 56.97 and hit 66 centuries, 94 fifties. He was also part of India’s 2011 World Cup triumph, 2013 Champions Trophy title win and maiden Test victory on Australian soil in 2018.
As an ODI cricketer, Virat was inarguably the best performer in the last decade, aggregating 10,000-plus runs at an average of 61.83 with 39 hundreds and 48 fifties. He also took 112 catches in the 50-over format in the past decade.
The Indian Cricket Team's official Instagram account shared a post to congratulate Kohli on his achievement.
"Sir Garfield Sobers Award for ICC Male cricketer of the Decade. ICC Men's ODI Cricketer of the Decade. Runs Trophies and phenomenal numbers across formats in last decade. Champion in the truest sense. Congratulations to Virat Kohli," read the caption of the post.
India’s white-ball vice-captain Rohit Sharma was one of the first from the cricket fraternity to hail Kohli for winning two top honours at the ICC awards.
"Great achievement," Rohit commented on the post along with a clapping hands emoji.
England women's cricketer Danielle Wyatt also lauded the Indian captain, using multiple emojis in the comments section.
