Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma achieved a personal milestone during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 clash against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Thursday, October 1. He was two runs away from getting to 5000 IPL runs before the match began. Sharma hit a boundary on the first ball he faced in the match and got the milestone with aplomb.
Only two batsmen had got to the landmark before him, both Indians. The Chennai Super Kings stalwart Suresh Raina became the first batsman to score 5000 IPL runs followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli. Both the batsmen got there in the same season in 2019.

It took another season for Rohit Sharma to get there and he became the second-fastest to get there in terms of balls faced after Suresh Raina. While the left-hander took 3,619 balls, Sharma needed 3,817 deliveries to get there.
The former congratulated the MI skipper on his incredible achievement and said that he felt proud.
Raina tweeted, "Heartiest congratulations my brother on achieving another great milestone of completing 5k runs @ImRo45. Proud of you, more power to you! #MIvsKXIP"
