Delhi Capitals' (DC) young batting sensation Prithvi Shaw said his plan was to play his natural game and play the shots along the ground against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after failing to make an impact in DC’s first game against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.
Shaw played a brilliant knock of 64 off 43 balls, as well as, shared a 94-run opening stand with Shikhar Dhawan (35) to take DC to 175/3 against CSK with the final job done by the bowlers as the franchise secured its 44-run victory over MS Dhoni-led team in Dubai on 25th September.
Following his game-changing innings, the 20-year-old batsman said he wanted to avoid “silly mistakes” that he made against the KXIP and contribute in his team’s cause. Shaw had scored just 5 against the KL Rahul-led side.
Shaw told DC captain Shreyas Iyer in a video posted on the IPL website after Friday’s game: “My plan was to play my natural game but play the shots along the ground, last game we saw there were some silly mistakes and it was not working for me or the team.”
The young star further added, “CSK has some good pace bowlers, I was able to time the ball and get some gaps. As the spinners came on, even if we are 40/0, it doesn't matter, I knew me and Shikhar Dhawan could pace our innings after the powerplay.”
Noteworthy, DC will next play SRH in the IPL 2020 on 29th September in Abu Dhabi.
