A day after police complaint was filed against Yuvraj Singh for his alleged casteist remark on Yuzvendra Chahal, the former India all-rounder has apologized for his unintentional mistake.

Taking to Twitter, Yuvraj posted a lengthy statement which reads: “This is to clarify that I have never believed in any kind of disparity, be it on the basis of caste, colour, creed or gender. I have given and continue to spend my life for the welfare of people. I believe in the dignity of life and respect each individual without exception.”

“I understand that while I was having a conversation with my friends, I was misunderstood, which was unwarranted. However, as a responsible Indian I want to say that if I have unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments or feelings, I would like to express regret for the same,” his message further stated.

Yuvi concluded by saying that his love for India and its people is eternal.

Coming to the matter, Yuvraj had allegedly used a casteist slur towards India wrist-spinner Chahal while having a conversation with Rohit Sharma on Instagram.

Talking about Chahal's TikTok videos, Yuvraj had said: "Yeh bhangi log ko kaam nahi hai yeh Yuzi aur isko (Kuldeep)."

“Yuzi ko dekha kya video daala hai apni family ke saath. Maine usko wahi bola ki apne baap ko nacha raha hai, pagal toh nahi hai tu,” Rohit replied.

The short clip has gone viral on social media with 'Yuvraj Singh maafi mango' one of the leading trends on Twitter.

The comments might have been made as a joke but a number of people took offence to it.

In fact, a police complaint was filed against Yuvraj in Hansi police station of Hisar district, Haryana. The written complaint was given by Dalit rights activist and advocate Rajat Kalsan in which he has demanded registration on an FIR.
