Eid ul-Fitr is a religious festival which marks the end of Ramzan and a month of fasting for Muslims. The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of fasting that people observe from dawn to dusk. The festivities commence after the sighting of the crescent moon.
Muslims enjoy several delicacies and wear new attire to rejoice the festival. The date of Eid changes every year and is based on the lunar cycle. This year, the majority of Muslims are celebrating Eid ul-Fitr on Sunday (May 24) as the moon has officially been sighted in Saudi Arabia.
Since the world is currently dealing with the novel COVID-19 outbreak, the Muslim community has been urged to offer Eid prayers from home and avoid large gatherings. Hence, the celebrations will look different this time around, keeping in mind the government guidelines.
Meanwhile, renowned cricketers from different parts of the world took to micro-blogging site Twitter and extended their heartfelt greetings on the occasion of EID 2020.
