Former India captain MS Dhoni hasn't featured in the national team since the World Cup 2019 tournament. He had planned to restart cricket with the Indian Premier League (IPL), but the COVID-19 pandemic ruined the comeback.
Lately, a lot of discussion on his chances to play in the future is going on and cricketers have had their say on it.
Rohit Sharma, the India vice-captain, and CSK's deputy Suresh Raina had a chat on Instagram live recently. They discussed Dhoni and his possibility to return to the Indian team.
According to Raina, Dhoni looked good enough to come back during CSK's camp a month before IPL's scheduled start. “To be honest he was striking the ball pretty well and the bat flow seemed quite good.
"He is also fit but only he knows what is in his mind. However, I can’t say what his plans are now but yes he does have cricket left in him,” he said.
“If that is the case, he should play,” Rohit responded. “Hope he starts playing again.”
Raina added, “Yes but only he knows, whenever he becomes available people should ask him what his plans are."
If Dhoni would have made the IPL count with his performance, his chances for T20 World Cup 2020 were good enough, as said by India's head coach Ravi Shastri.
