On Rohit Sharma’s 33rd birthday last Thursday (April 30), former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir hailed the Hitman as the best white-ball cricketer in the world, which created quite a buzz on social media platforms.
After netizens’ reactions, Rohit on Friday (May 1) himself responded to Gambhir’s tweet as he wrote: "Don't know about that Gauti bhai. But loving your work", referring to the ex opener’s performance as a leader during the ongoing Coronavirus crisis.
Last month, Gambhir – who is a BJP MP from East Delhi – donated Rs 1 crore to the Delhi Government for procurement of medical equipment and treatment of COVID-19 patients in the national capital. He recently performed the last rites of his domestic help whom he referred to as "family".
Coming to Gambhir’s comments, Rohit might not be the greatest limited-overs cricketer in the world but he is certainly among the best in the current era.
Rohit Sharma, who made his international debut way back in 2007, boasts of quite a few world records. He is the proud owner of the highest individual ODI score — 264 (against Sri Lanka in 2014). Moreover, he is the only batsman in the history of cricket to have scored three ODI double tons and four Twenty20 international centuries.
During his 13-year long cricket career thus far, Rohit has amassed 9115 runs in 224 ODIs at an average of 49.27 with 29 tons. He has 2773 T20I runs to his name from 108 games at a strike-rate of 138.79. Rohit was also instrumental in India’s 2007 ICC World T20 and 2013 ICC Champions Trophy triumphs.
