Kaneria got scared after sledging Lara during 2006 Multan Test, claims Faisal Iqbal

Inzamam-ul-Haq recently revealed that Kaneria's sledging had triggered Lara.

Brian Lara taking on Danish Kaneria during the 2006 Multan Test | GettyFormer Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq recently shared an interesting story about leg-spinner Danish Kaneria’s failed attempt to provoke West Indies batting legend Brian Lara during a Test match in Multan in 2006.

The drawn Test saw Pakistan amassing 357 in the first innings before Lara smashed 216 to help his side pile up a mammoth 591.

"Danish Kaneria bowled a googly, which he [Brain Lara] played back to the bowler while coming out of his crease. In that moment, Danish said ‘well played Brian’, which prompted Lara into saying ‘okay sir’. But the next three balls were all dispatched over the boundary," said Inzamam while speaking in a YouTube video.

"I was the captain of the side so I went over to Danish and told him to tease Lara a bit more. I felt that Lara was angry so we might make him throw away his wicket. I placed the fielders on the boundary line in anticipation of the big shots but he still managed to outfox us by dispatching Danish to all parts of the ground," he added.

Inzi’s remarks didn’t go well with Kaneria as he replied to his former captain by tweeting, "I have taken Brian Lara’s wicket 5 times in my career. He was a good cricketer. If PCB had supported me, I would have broken many big records."

When it seemed that the things will now settle down, former Pakistan batsman Faisal Iqbal entered the debate, claiming that Kaneria got 'scared' seeing the devastating approach of 'king' Brian Lara during Multan Test.

In a tweet on Monday (April 13), Faisal wrote: "I still remember this match as a 12man of Pakistan and was just watching the sixes going in the stands in his 200 double hundred... defiantly a dumb ass sledge by Kaneria to the king @BrianLara and than later Kaneria himself got scared."

The ball is now on Danish Kaneria's court whether he wants to take this debate any further by reacting over Faisal Iqbal’s comments.
