As everyone struggles to adapt to the increasing threat of the Coronavirus outbreak, Bangladesh pacer Rubel Hossain has expressed his concern over the excessive prices being charged for preventive equipment like masks and sanitizers in the country.

As of Sunday (March 22), Bangladesh has tested more than 20 positive cases for COVID-19 and recorded two deaths due to the epidemic, which has claimed over 13,000 lives globally while infecting nearly 300,000.

In a fiery Facebook post, Hossain lashed out at the businesses for being "greedy" in the wake of a disaster.

"We are a greedy and ruthless nation," he started his Facebook status with a scathing remark.

"China went through a severe crisis recently but the manufacturers there had reduced the price of the masks, because they are human. Whereas with us, the moment we heard about corona, the mask worth Taka 5 is now being sold for taka 50. Mask of taka 20 is now ascended to taka 100 or 150. Because we are greedy people.”

"In such desperate times I remember those heroes who fought together to get us freedom. But today despite being under a crisis we are not being able to stand as one. Why?"

"Price of mask, sanitizers and regular items in the market is increasing. Damn to those greedy, profiteer businessmen who are creating artificial crisis. They are the actual coronavirus of the country," Rubel concluded.

Bangladesh and many other countries have seen a steep rise in the pricing of masks and sanitizers in the face of COVID-19 crisis. The situation is so grim that top brands' products are not available in the market anymore.

Authorities in Bangladesh have shut down the country's largest brothel for two weeks as a preventive measure to avoid the spread of the virus.

The health minister of Bangladesh has said that the government will lockdown the most susceptible areas of the country if the situation worsens.
