Former Australian speedster Mitchell Johnson has been elected as an Honorary Life Member of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), custodians of the game’s laws.
The MCC made the announcement on Sunday, 18th August, at Lord’s during the second Ashes Test between Australia and England which ended in a draw.
Taking to Twitter, the club announced Johnson’s membership: “MCC has today announced the election of former @CricketAus bowler, Mitchell Johnson, as an Honorary Life Member of the Club.”
Meanwhile, the speedster, who made Test debut in 2007 and went on to represent Australia in 73 Test matches, claiming 313 wickets at an average of 28.40, was “blown away” by the honor.
Johnson said, “It’s an absolutely amazing feeling and I never thought I’d be sitting here at Lord’s as an honorary life member. I am just blown me away. It’s nice to be recognized by MCC. I am really honored and really proud to be in this position right now.”
Noteworthy, Johnson – who was widely regarded as one of the most feared fast bowlers in the world, also had a prolific record in the white-ball game, as the former pacer claimed 239 wickets in 153 ODIs and 38 scalps in 30 Twenty20 Internationals for Australia.
