It was on this very date (April 2), Team India had clinched the 2011 World Cup by beating Sri Lanka in the final at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It was India’s second World Cup triumph after 28 years.

Former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and ex-opener Gautam Gambhir were the heroes in the summit clash as they scored 91* and 97 respectively while chasing Sri Lanka’s stiff target of 275. Soon after Dhoni hit the winning six off Nuwan Kulasekara, majority of the Indian players went numb with some of them even shedding tears.

It was also the ultimate crown in the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s illustrious cricketing career. Eight years down the lane, Tendulkar recalled the memories from that historic day and termed it as the best moment of his cricketing life.

“2nd of April 2011. I honestly don’t know where I should start and what all I should say and where I should stop. That day was so big in our life, for me especially. I can definitely say I haven’t seen a bigger day in my playing life,” Sachin said in a video posted on his official Twitter page.

The batting maestro also extended his best wishes to Virat Kohli and company for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup, scheduled to be held in England and Wales from May 30.
