International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a number of changes for the game, which will be implemented over the next few months. The parent body has decided to introduce Instagram handles on the back of the shirt in Test matches, a Twitter poll to replace coin toss, shorts to tackle heat and commentators on the field of play behind the slips cordon.
ICC publicized all the changes through its official Twitter handle. It started with a series of tweets that stated: “As part of our efforts to make the game more appealing to younger generations, the ICC will be applying both numbers and Instagram handles to kits from the beginning of the World Test Championship.”
Other changes announced also broke tradition with Twitter poll to replace coin toss. As per ICC’s post, the fans sitting at home will now decide who bats and bowl during a Test match.
Moreover, teams can switch to shorts during a Test match if the temperature goes over 35 degrees Celsius while commentators can be positioned behind the slips cordon.
ICC also announced that no balls and dot balls from now on be known as ‘Faults’ and ‘Aces’ and runs scored in the evening session of a day/night Test will count for double.
After taking notice of these radical changes, former England captain Michael Vaughan commented: “Social media handles on the back of Test Shirts is exactly what should happen … Love the idea … ”
On the other hand, former India opener Aakash Chopra asked ICC if they are also contemplating to introduce “Whatsapp Numbers and Twitter Handles” on the back of the shirt.
