Former Pakistani bowler Mohammad Amir made a shocking revelation that several of the Pakistani players were laughing and joking hours after the Men in Green lost to the USA in the super over in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
The USA had won the toss and chose to bowl first. Babar Azam made 44 and Shadab Khan made 40 as Pakistan made 159/7 in 20 overs. In response, the USA managed to tie the game, thanks to Monank Patel’s 50 and Aaron Jones’ 36*.
Mohammad Amir bowled the Super Over for Pakistan and conceded 18 runs. In response, Saurabh Netravalkar defended those runs, winning it by 5 runs and causing a huge upset. This loss and defeat to India led to Pakistan being knocked out in the group stage of the tournament.
Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir, who was a member of the 2024 T20 World Cup Pakistan team, has disclosed how certain players on the team, led by Babar Azam, were still smiling an hour after the loss to the USA and acted as if 'nothing had occurred.'
“Those who feel they cannot sleep for the whole night. I was very hurt. After the USA's loss, there were players who were indulging in laughter. Our flight was one hour later than the match, and there were 2-3 players in the team who would indulge in laughter. Like nothing has happened. Many boys, I don’t want to name them, have taken cricket for granted. But cricket is such a game; if one does not take it for granted, it will keep giving you respect. Otherwise, it will kick you,” Amir said on how Haarna Mana hai.
In the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026, Pakistan won against the Netherlands, Canada, and the USA and only lost to India in the group stage. In the ongoing Super 8s stage, Pakistan has lost to England, while their match against New Zealand was washed out due to rain, and they have one point from two games.
Amir also discussed how good teams have beaten Pakistan over the last 4-5 years and how the core of the Pakistan team continues to get opportunities despite underperforming.
“Pichle 4-5 saal se chapade hi lag rahi hain (Last 4-5 years, we have been continuously thrashed). Whatever team comes, defeat us. And with ease. Today, we felt for some time that we could win. Otherwise, during the last tournament till this one, we did not have any hope that Pakistan would win. I think there have been a lot of chances given to the 4-5 players who form your core. We have been talking for the last 4-5 years about how they have had enough chances. And they still have not delivered,” added Amir.
Pakistan will next face Sri Lanka in Pallekele on February 28 in their final Super 8s game.
