Amid the buzz around the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, one name dominating the headlines in the Pakistan camp is Usman Tariq. The lanky mystery spinner, who rose to prominence with his impressive display in franchise cricket, is being hailed as Pakistan's "X-factor" heading into the showpiece tournament.
However, Tariq’s unorthodox bowling style has drawn immense scrutiny, with many social media users calling him a "blatant chucker."
His action has been reported twice, first during PSL 2024 and again in the 2025 season. However, the ICC and PCB have given him clearance.
During the second T20I between Pakistan and Australia in Lahore on Saturday (January 31), Usman Tariq’s action once again became a talking point. He dismissed Cameron Green in the 11th over of Australia’s chase.
While walking back to the pavilion, the Australian all-rounder was visibly unhappy and he seemingly gestured that the delivery was a 'chuck'.
Here’s the video:
Usman Tariq played a starring role for Pakistan in their tri-series win involving Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe last year. Before today’s game, the 28-year-old had played just two T20Is and claimed a hat-trick against Zimbabwe in figures for 4/18.
The off-spinner did not feature in the T20I series opener against Australia, with many suggesting he was being 'protected' from a ban before the T20 World Cup.
