Sanju Samson continued his poor run of form in the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand as he was dismissed for a single-digit score in the fifth and final match at his home ground in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday (January 31).
Despite producing paltry scores of 10, 6, 0, and 24 in the first four games, the wicketkeeper-batter was backed by the Indian team management for the series finale. However, Samson failed to repay faith as he fell for 6 runs.
Lockie Ferguson removed Sanju on the fifth delivery of the third over, caught by Bevon Jacobs at deep backward point.
Sanju Samson’s lean patch is a big concern for India as they gear up to defend the T20 World Cup title at home.
Tilak Varma’s surgery for an abdominal issue allowed the Indian team management to accommodate both Samson and Ishan Kishan in the playing XI against New Zealand.
With Tilak set to make a comeback during the T20 World Cup, the Gautam Gambhir-led management faces a tough decision to choose between Samson and Kishan. Considering the current form, the southpaw is likely to get the nod ahead of Sanju at the top of the order.
For his below-par outing in the T20I series against Kiwis, Sanju Samson was slammed by the fans on social media.
