Rashid Khan, Afghanistan's cricket superstar, has spoken up about the exceptional security measures he must take when travelling in his own country, disclosing that he utilizes a bulletproof vehicle for personal safety.
During a conversation with former England captain Kevin Pietersen, Rashid stunned Pietersen by explaining that he is unable to move freely in Afghanistan.
“No chance. I can’t even go in a normal car. I have to have a bulletproof car. I travel in my own bulletproof car only,” Rashid said when asked what daily life is like back home.
Pietersen was left stunned at the revelation, asking why such extreme precautions were needed. Rashid Khan calmly stated that while he is not directly the target, protection is necessary given the unpredictable circumstances.
“Yeah, I have to. I need it. It’s for my safety. No one is going to shoot me. But maybe, if I end up in the wrong place and at the wrong time. It’s locked, and sometimes people even try to open it,” he said.

Rashid's statements highlight the sharp contrast between his existence at home and his standing abroad. Born in Nangarhar province, he rose through Afghanistan's war-torn cricketing ranks to become one of the world's most feared T20 bowlers.
Rashid is a true cricket globetrotter, having played in tournaments such as the Indian Premier League, the Big Bash League in Australia, the Hundred in England, and the Caribbean Premier League, and sharing locker rooms with the sport's top players.
He has made Dubai his second home, utilizing it as a base because of its proximity to Afghanistan and the large Afghan diaspora.
