WATCH- 'Rumors I am still hearing are that I am going to retire'- Rohit Sharma debunks every report of his retirment

Rohit Sharma will be seen in action for India in upcoming five-ODI series in New Zealand.

Rohit Sharma | GettyAce India batter and 2024 T20 World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma has stated that he has been continuously hearing rumors that he will retire from international cricket soon. The rumors started ahead of India's tour of England, even though the Mumbaikar kept playing.

He made these remarks on the television show he presents, 'Family Full House with Rohit Sharma'. On the show, he and his guests, actress Karishma Kapoor and actor Chunky Pandey, were responding to a fan's question about a 'famous rumor' they had heard about themselves.

While Kapoor discussed her diet and Pandey addressed his supposed miserliness, Rohit used the opportunity to speak about the reports.

“The rumor I have heard about me, the rumor I did hear and I am still hearing, is that I am going to retire. I hope all of these rumors about all three of us have been debunked,” he said on the show Family Full House with Rohit Sharma'.

Several reports had widely suggested that Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector at the time, had chosen to move away from Rohit for the 2027 ODI World Cup, to bring in Yashasvi Jaiswal. Agarkar had asked Pragyan Ojha, the South Zone selector and a close friend of Rohit, to pass the message on to him.

Rohit did not take the news well and reached out to certain BCCI officials to protest it. At the time, though, there were claims that he might end his career following the series' final ODI at Lord's.

The situation bore an eerie resemblance to Agarkar telling him in May 2025 that he was no longer part of the Test team—after those reports surfaced, Rohit turned to social media to announce his retirement from the format.

Rohit's career was revived when BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia publicly stated that Rohit would not retire after the Lord's ODI. He strengthened his position further by scoring a century. However, Saikia's remark ultimately led Agarkar to turn down a contract extension, bringing his time as chief selector to an end.
