England completed a 2-1 ODI series win over India as they defeated the Men in Blue by 27 runs in the third and final ODI on July 19, 2026, at Lord’s. Harry Brook won the toss and chose to bat first at Lord’s.
England openers Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell took the Indian bowlers to task, scoring 192 runs for the first wicket. Bethell scored 91 runs, including 11 fours and two sixes. Duckett scored 141 with 18 fours and one six.
Joe Root then scored 74* in 48 balls with 9 fours, while Jos Buttler's 13-ball 41* with 4 fours and 3 sixes helped England reach 387/3. Prasidh Krishna took two wickets for India, and Gurnoor Brar scored 97 runs in his ten overs.
Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma responded carefully, scoring 147 runs for the first wicket in 25 overs. Gill was out for 77 in 84 balls, with ten fours and one six, but Rohit Sharma was in top form. He made a brilliant 138 with 17 fours and 5 sixes. He became the first Indian batter and the oldest Indian to score a century in an ODI at Lord’s.
Once Rohit Sharma fell, Sam Curran got to work and removed the rest of the middle order cheaply. Ishan Kishan (14), Shreyas Iyer (0), Virat Kohli (74), and Axar Patel (2) all fell to Sam Curran, who finished with 4/75 in his 10 overs.
When Kohli fell for 74 with 4 fours and 3 sixes, the Indian challenge to the daunting target was over. India finished their 50 overs at 360/7, as England won the game by 27 runs and pocketed the series 2-1. Jacob Bethell won the Player of the Match, while Joe Root was the Player of the Series.
The entire England team rejoiced at the victory, as they had defeated the No. 1-ranked ODI side in the world. This also marked the end of a poor tour of the UK for the Indian team, where they managed only one win in an ODI.
The Indian cricket fraternity reacted to India’s failure to win the ODI series after losing the T20Is 0-4. They took to social media to share their reactions and praise the England side for winning the series.
