India and Afghanistan clashed in the first ODI of the three-match series on June 13, 2026, at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. This game was supposed to be a 50-overs-per-side affair, but the rain reduced the game to just 25 overs per side.

India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to field first, and Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey made their India ODI debuts.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the star for Afghanistan, as he blazed to 102 runs in 51 balls with 8 fours and 8 sixes. He reached his century in 48 balls, hitting the second-fastest ton in ODIs against India, behind Shahid Afridi’s 45-ball effort in 2005.

Though India took three early wickets, Gurbaz and Hashmatullah Shahidi kept Afghanistan in the game thanks to a 116-run partnership. The Afghans were looking at a total of in excess of 200 runs, but India pulled things back thanks to the dismissal of Gurbaz.

Azmatullah Omarzai smashed 26 with 3 sixes, but Indian bowlers had the last laugh. In the end, Afghanistan were bowled out for 194 runs. For India, Harsh Dubey took 3/47, and Gurnoor Brar took 3/27, both playing their first ODIs.

Meanwhile, India captain Shubman Gill shined in the field, taking a stunning catch to send back AM Ghazanfar. The catch happened in the 22nd over of the innings, bowled by Harsh Dubey. Ghazanfar tried to cut the short delivery, but the ball was too close to his body.

He managed an edge, and the ball flew past the gloves of Ishan Kishan, and Gill was ready for the quick reflex catch. He put his right hand out and grabbed the ball out of thin air, and celebrated in style.
