Kerala fast bowler Sandeep Warrier is making his T20I debut for India as he replaced the injured Navdeep Saini in India playing XI for the third match of the series against Sri Lanka on July 29, 2021.
The 30-year-old who hails from Thrissur has been on the radar for quite some time and has appeared for the Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League. He has played 54 T20 matches and picked 52 wickets with the best of 3/19 at an economy of 7.29.
He was included as a net bowler in the Shikhar Dhawan-led India team for the white-ball series against Sri Lanka and was later included in the main squad along with other net bowlers after 9 players were put into isolation due to Krunal Pandya’s COVID positive diagnosis.
He was named in the playing XI for the 3rd T20I after Navdeep Saini injured his shoulder in the second match and received his cap from bowling coach Paras Mhambrey and had tears in his eyes as he was congratulated by his teammates.
