SL v IND 2021: T20I series to go ahead as scheduled; second match to be played later today-Report

Seven players deemed close contact with Krunal Pandya won't be playing in remaining matches.

Krunal Pandya | GettyThe remainder of the India and Sri Lanka T20I series will go as scheduled and the second match will be played later tonight on July 28, 2021, as per ANI reports.

Yesterday, Krunal Pandya had tested positive for COVID-19 and both teams were sent into isolation with close contacts of Krunal being quarantined as well. However, later players of both teams tested negative for the virus, along with the close contact players.

Unfortunately, however, these seven players- Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Chahar, Manish Pandey, Ishan Kishan, and K Gowtham will not be playing the remaining two T20Is for India.

"The second T20I will go ahead later today and the last T20I will be played tomorrow," a source in the know of developments told ANI on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the second T20I between India and Sri Lanka was postponed to a day later, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed.

BCCI had released a statement saying: "The second T20I between Sri Lanka and India originally scheduled to be played on July 27 has been pushed forward by a day and will now take place on Wednesday, July 28. Following the Rapid Antigen Tests conducted ahead of the match on Tuesday morning, Team India all-rounder Krunal Pandya was found to be positive. The Medical Teams have identified eight members as close contacts. The entire contingent is undergoing RT-PCR tests today to ascertain any further outbreak in the squad.”

This development has put a question on Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav’s travel plans for the UK, where they are supposed to linkup with the Virat Kohli-led Indian contingent for the upcoming five Tests against England.
