SL v IND 2021: Shaw should start producing results: Salman Butt on his comparison to Sehwag, Viv Richards

Prithvi Shaw has always been criticised for not being consistent.

Prithvi Shaw | GettyIndia opening batsman Prithvi Shaw is a player who was identified as special talent several years back. Even though now he is praised for his on-field performances, it has not been a smooth ride for him in the international arena.

While people acknowledge Shaw’s talent, he has been criticized for his consistency and poor technique. The right-hand batsman was even dropped from the Test team after a poor display in the first Test in Adelaide against Australia last year.

Former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt addressed Shaw and his constant comparison with the likes of Virender Sehwag and Viv Richards in his latest YouTube video.

Some fans feel it is wrong to ask Prithvi Shaw to alter his game. They point out to Virender Sehwag and Viv Richards, who succeeded by playing their own brand of cricket. When you start producing results, you can stake a claim to a particular style of play being yours, Butt said in his YouTube Video.

The southpaw then recalled the time when he saw the 21-year-old right-hand batsman playing for India in an ODI against New Zealand where Shaw was unable to convert the start he got into big innings.

To give himself stability, a youngster has to convert starts. Talking of Prithvi Shaw, I saw him playing one-dayers for India in New Zealand as well. He used to hit three-four cracking boundaries and then get out. So, when something is not letting you continue and stopping you from making a big score, you need to modify it,” he said.

He has all the strokes in his repertoire, but Prithvi Shaw is playing too many shots too early. He needs to take into consideration factors like time, pace, wicket, and opposition and manage his innings accordingly. Even the great Sachin Tendulkar paced his innings as per the situation,” the Lahore-based cricketer added.
