Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who is selected in India’s squad for Sri Lanka, says that he’s confident about clearing the fitness tests this time.

Varun Chakravarthy’s career so far has been a roller coaster ride. On account of his brilliant performance in the Indian Premier League, 2020 (IPL) was picked in the Indian T20 squad for the tour of Australia but later was ruled out of the series due to a shoulder injury.

After recovering from the injury, Varun Chakravarthy was included in the India T20I squad for the five-match series against England

Before joining the squad Chakravarthy failed to clear the fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) repeatedly, which further ruled him out of the T20I series.

However, now the spinner is named in the Indian squad that will tour Sri Lanka in July and again will have to pass a fitness test before joining the squad led by Shikhar Dhawan.

Speaking to Sportstar, Varun Chakravarthy said that he’s confident of clearing the fitness test and hopes to play for India in T20 World Cup.

“I am confident of clearing the fitness tests. Playing for India in the World Twenty20 is a much-cherished dream for me,” Varun Chakravarthy told Sportstar .

Chakravarty said that he considers himself as a leg-spinner but the media calls him a mystery spinner and he is working more on his variations. He added that he believes more in the process.

“I consider myself a leg-spinner though the media calls me a mystery spinner. The leg-spin delivery is my stock ball, and I have the googly and the flipper. I am striving to make my top-spinner more potent.

“I simply focus on the process. I can control things till the ball leaves my hand. If the process is right, I don’t bother even if I go for runs,” he said.

Varun Chakravarthy further revealed the conversation with Rahul Dravid and said that he interacted with Shikhar Dhawan at NCA and he’s looking forward to playing under him.

“You have the ability. Don’t take anything for granted. Maintain dedication. I have interacted with Shikhar Dhawan at the NCA. He is a jovial person, and I am looking forward to playing under him,” he said.

India’s tour of Sri Lanka will kick start from on 13th July, They are scheduled to play 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs on the tour.
