The Indian cricket team led by Shikhar Dhawan is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka for a white-ball series next month.
The limited-overs series, comprising three ODIs and as many T20Is, will be held in Colombo from July 13 to July 25.
In order to prepare for the series, the team will play three intra-squad matches in Colombo, ANI reported on Saturday (June 12).
"The Indians wanted to play some warm-up games against the 'A' team or a team that could be arranged, but the COVID-19 protcols made that a little difficult and that is when a request went to BCCI to play intra-squad games. So, the Indian team will now play one T20 game and two one-day games to prepare for the limited-overs series," sources in the know of developments in the Lankan board told ANI.
The report also says that Dhawan and company will undergo a 14-day quarantine in India from Monday (June 14).
After arriving in Colombo, the Indian team will have to serve 3 more days of hard quarantine before training in isolation till July 4. After that, they will be allowed to resume full-fledged outdoor training.
"The boys will assemble on Monday and undergo 14 days of quarantine with regular testing. While the first seven days will be hard quarantine, the players can then train indoors for the next seven days. Post that they leave for Colombo," ANI quoted a BCCI official as saying.
"As per the plan, the team after reaching Colombo will be in hard quarantine for three days before starting to train in quarantine till July 4. Post this period they can train normally in the bubble till July 12 and also play the intra-squad games," the official added.
Meanwhile, BCCI on Thursday (June 10) announced India’s squad for the Sri Lanka tour and named senior pace Bhuvneshwar Kumar as Dhawan’s deputy.
There are many new faces in the squad with Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Nitish Rana, K Gowtham, and Chetan Sakariya receiving maiden India call-up.
