SA v IND 2021-22: Bounce in Cape Town pitch 'significant factor' in Elgar's successful review, says host broadcaster

Dean Elgar's review triggered a huge controversy on Day 3 of the Cape Town Test.

Indian players alleged that the host broadcaster rigged DRS | TwitterThe third day of the ongoing Cape Town Test between India and South Africa grabbed the headlines for a controversial DRS call, involving the home team’s skipper Dean Elgar.

Elgar was caught plumb by off-spinner R Ashwin in front of the stumps and umpire Marais Erasmus adjudged it out. However, the decision was overturned with the ball tracker suggesting that the ball would have gone over the stumps even though it hit Elgar just below the knee roll.

The decision left the Indian camp furious as the likes of Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Ashwin alleged that the host broadcaster Supersport TV rigged DRS.

Skipper Kohli vented out his frustration as he went up to the stumps and said: "Focus on your team as well when they shine the ball eh, not just the opposition. Trying to catch people all the time."

Ashwin was also caught saying: "You should find better ways to win Supersport", while Rahul was heard commenting: "Whole country playing against XI guys."

Other than the Indian players, umpire Erasmus was also shocked to see the ball going over the stumps.

Amid the hue and cry, SuperSport posted a graphic on its official Twitter account and wrote that it was the bounce in the Cape Town track which proved to be a 'significant factor' in Dean Elgar's successful review.

Coming to the match, the Proteas were 101/2 at the close of play on Day 3 while chasing 212 in the fourth innings. Elgar fell at the stroke of stumps after scoring 30, but Keegan Petersen was still unbeaten in the middle on 48.

The hosts need 111 more runs to clinch the series 2-1 and they have eight wickets in hand heading into the penultimate day of the Newlands Test.
