India all-rounder Washington Sundar has tested positive for COVID-19. Sundar is part of the 18-member squad for the upcoming ODI series against South Africa but his participation remains doubtful after testing positive.
According to a Cricbuzz report, Sundar is believed to be in Mumbai, from where the members of the ODI squad are scheduled to depart for South Africa on Wednesday (January 12) morning.
Sundar was out of action since March last year due to injury and recently returned to the Tamil Nadu squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
While there is no information if the BCCI will name his replacement, a BCCI official confirmed to Cricbuzz that Sundar has tested positive and won't travel to South Africa.
"He tested positive some days back and it has been decided that he will not travel with the squad," the official said.
As per the reports, Jayant Yadav, who is part of the Test squad, has been asked to stay back in South Africa.
The three-match ODI series is due to get underway on January 19 in Paarl.
