SA v IND 2021-22: Cricket fraternity lauds Dean Elgar’s 96* as South Africa beats India by 7 wickets; levels series 1-1

This is 1st time South Africa defeated India in a Test in Johannesburg.

Dean Elgar made 96* and led the chase to the end | GettySouth African team created history by defeating India in the second Test match of the three-match series at Johannesburg by 7 wickets and leveled the series 1-1. This was Proteas’ first-ever Test win at Jo’Burg in a Test match against India since 1992.

KL Rahul captained the side after Virat Kohli pulled out of the match due to a back spasm. India won the toss and batted first, but could only manage 202 runs in their first innings, with Rahul making a fifty. Marco Jansen picked 4/31 and Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi picked three scalps each.

In reply, South Africa made 229 runs with half-centuries from Temba Bavuma and Keegan Petersen. Shardul Thakur picked a career-best 7/61 to keep the lead to just 27 runs.

The chase of 240 runs was set up well by Dean Elgar, who remained unbeaten on 96 runs with 10 fours to his name. Rassie van der Dussen made 40 and Temba Bavuma contributed 23* to the chase, as South Africa defeated India for the first time at The Wanderers in Jo’Burg.

The Cricket fraternity was in awe of the South African chase and praised the team as captain Dean Elgar for his amazing knock.
