Indian off-spinner R Ashwin was amazed how easy it was for Shardul Thakur to pick up wickets during the South African first innings of the second Test match at Johannesburg, which led to him making a funny comment in Tamil to the pacer.

The medium-pacer ran riot with the ball on Day 2 at the Wanderers, picking 7 wickets. Seeing Shardul's heroics with the ball, not only the fans were amazed, but even his teammates were left gobsmacked and one of them was R Ashwin.

Shardul Thakur ended up with the best bowling figures by an Indian against South Africa in Tests when he picked 7/61, helping India bowl Proteas out for 229 runs, keeping their lead to just 27 runs.

When Shardul Thakur had gotten Marco Jansen caught by R Ashwin, the Tamil Nadu off-spinner was simply too much in awe and a quip from him was heard on stump mic, which left the netizens smiling.   

The veteran off-spinner was heard as saying: “Yarra nee, engendhu da pudichanga unna? Nee ball potaale wicket vizhum,” Ashwin said in Tamil. The rough translation of the comment is: “Who are you? Wicket falls if you just bowl.”

This was Shardul Thakur’s maiden five-fer in Test matches and his best bowling figures in First-Class cricket as well.
