The incident took place in the final session of play on Day 2.

Dean Elgar and KL Rahul's heated exchange | Twitter Cricket fraternity is witnessing an exhilarating contest between India and South Africa on Day 2 of the second Test at the Wanderers, Johannesburg.

While Rishabh Pant’s controversial catch to dismiss Rassie van der Dussen sparked a debate in the first session, Dean Elgar and KL Rahul's heated exchange hogged the limelight in the final session.

During the seventh over of India’s second innings, Marco Jansen dismissed Rahul, courtesy a catch at second slip by Aiden Markram. Unlike Rassie, however, the stand-in India captain opted for a review to confirm whether the catch was clean or not.

After looking at the replays, the third umpire was convinced that Markram’s fingers were underneath the ball and adjudged Rahul out.

As soon as the third umpire gave the decision in South Africa’s favour, hosts skipper Elgar said something to Rahul, which triggered a heated exchange of words between them.

Rahul looked animated and kept on replying as he walked back to the pavilion after scoring only 8 in the second innings.

Earlier, India bowled out South Africa for 229 to concede a first-innings lead of 27 runs. All-rounder Shardul Thakur starred with the ball for the visitors, returning with the figures of 7/61 in his 17.5 overs.
