Virat Kohli's poor run with the bat continued as he got out on the scores of 35 and 18 in the just-concluded Centurion Test against South Africa.
With twin failures in the opening Test, Kohli finished the year 2021 without an international hundred. His last three-figure mark was against Bangladesh in a Test match in November 2019.
Virat featured in 11 Tests this year, scoring 536 runs at a paltry average of 28.21, including four half-centuries.
Commenting on Kohli's low scores, Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar said there is nothing wrong with the Indian Test captain's batting.
"There's nothing wrong with his batting; it's just like he is getting out on his first mistake every single time. Yes, you can say he should have left some of those deliveries but every batsman makes mistakes. Most batsmen get the benefit as they miss the ball or their catch being dropped or going wide from the fielder, but in his (Kohli) case he hasn't got that luck," said Gavaskar on Star Sports.
"Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope that 2022 is where the luck starts going his way. Even here in both the innings, the way he batted every ball was in the middle of the bat but the first time he made a mistake, he was out," he added.
Virat Kohli may have failed with the bat in Centurion, but he led the India team to another overseas Test victory on Thursday (December 30).
The visitors defeated the Proteas by 113 runs in the opening Test to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
The second Test will be played in Johannesburg from January 3.
