The Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team has already established themselves as the best touring Test side of the modern era, having won back-to-back series in Australia and currently leading 2-1 against England.

And now they are aiming for a historic victory in South Africa, where they haven’t yet won a Test series.

Ahead of the first Test of the upcoming three-match Test series against South Africa from December 26 in Centurion, former Indian captain, Sunil Gavaskar, said that this is India's best chance to win its first-ever Test series in the rainbow nation.

He further mentioned that the reports of Quinton de Kock possibly missing the second and third Tests against India, as the wicketkeeper’s wife Sasha is expected to give birth to their first child during the same time.

Gavaskar opined that De Kock's absence will make Proteas batting even weaker, which will boost India’s chances to script history by winning their first-ever Test series in South Africa.

Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar: “Coming to India's tour of South Africa, the turmoil with the release of the SJN report indicting three former South African greats is certainly not going to help the home team.”

He continued, “There is also talk about Quinton de Kock, who loves Indian bowling, not being available to play the second and third Test. That weakens a fragile batting line-up even more and presents India with its best-ever chance of winning a Test series there.”

The legendary batter further said that if Team India manages to win the Test series in South Africa this time, then the sky is the limit for Indian cricket, as it would mark the completion of an entire circle.

He signed off by saying, “If they do that it will truly be the crowning glory and complete the circle of India winning a Test series in every Test-playing country. South Africa is the last hurdle and once that’s done then the sky is the limit for Indian cricket.”
