SA v IND 2021-22: Cheteshwar Pujara banking on pace attack to script India’s first Test series win in South Africa

The three-match Test series is slated to get underway on December 26 in Centurion.

Pujara expects pace attack to excel in Australia | GettyIndia batter Cheteshwar Pujara believes his team can win their maiden Test series on South African soil, led by their potent fast bowling attack on the pace-friendly tracks.

The Virat Kohli-led side is due to play three Tests on the upcoming tour of South Africa, slated to get underway on December 26 in Centurion.

While Team India are coming into the series with a 2-0 home Test series win over New Zealand, the hosts have not played red-ball cricket since June.

"We have played a couple of Tests in India, so most of the guys are in touch," Pujara told the Board of Control for Cricket in India on Saturday (December 18).

"There is enough time for us to prepare and the guys are really looking forward to these Tests. It is the best chance for us to finally win a series in South Africa."

With pacers contributing immensely to India’s overseas Test success lately, Pujara is confident that they can beat the Proteas in their home conditions.

"Our fast bowlers have been the difference between the sides overall when we have played abroad. If you look at the Australia and England series, we have done exceptionally well as a bowling unit."

"Our fast bowlers are our strength (in South Africa) and I hope they can utilise the conditions and give us 20 wickets in each test match."

South Africa may seem underprepared ahead of the series, but Pujara reckons the visitors must focus on what they do well and not think about the opposition's problems.

"We would not think too much about whether we have the upper hand or not. We will try and stick to our game-plan and our processes, and the things we need to do to be successful in South Africa."
