Matt Holland won the Player of the Match on his debut | GettyIreland created history by winning the first T20I of the two-match series against India on June 26, 2026. This match was played at the Civil Service Cricket Club, Stormont, Belfast, and saw India captain Shreyas Iyer winning the toss and choosing to bowl first in his captaincy debut.

India was supposed to chase the total without any concern, but kept losing wickets at an alarming pace. Abhishek Sharma made 50 in 20 balls, while Shivam Dube made 25 and Tilak Varma made 19 runs. However, the likes of Shreyas Iyer (3), Ishan Kishan (1), Sanju Samson (5), and Washington Sundar (9) failed to come good when things got tough.

India only managed 148 runs and lost the game by 34 runs. Ireland registered their first-ever win over India in international cricket. Matthew Humpreys (3/38) and Matt Holland (3/28) were the pick of the Ireland bowlers. Ireland went 1-0 up in the two-game T20Is series.

The Indian cricket fraternity reacted to Ireland’s amazing performance and record-breaking win, while commenting on Indian batters’ failures as well as on social media.
