Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav impressed one and all with his brilliant bowling performance in the second ODI between India and Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday (January 12).
Kuldeep returned with brilliant figures of 3/51 in his 10 overs and also contributed 10* runs to Team India’s 4-wicket win in the second ODI against Sri Lanka in Kolkata. With the win, the Indian team clinched the ODI series, with the third and final ODI set to be played on January 15.
For his match-winning efforts, Kuldeep was adjudged Player of the Match on Thursday.
Meanwhile, after the second ODI at Eden Gardens, Indian cricket fans got to see Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal back on Chahal TV on Thursday.
In a video shared by BCCI on Twitter, Kuldeep can be seen decoding his game plan and strategy with fellow spinner Chahal, who later congratulated the spinner on completing 200 international wickets and winning Player of the Match in the second ODI against Sri Lanka.
Kuldeep told Chahal: “Achha, ye nahi pta tha mjhe. Thank you so much. How do I explain this… it’s a big deal…achieving 200 wickets in international cricket…I feel proud.”
When Chahal asked him about his favorite wicket in the second ODI, Yadav said: “Dasun Shanaka’s wicket was really important as he was performing really well in the series…everybody was planning on his dismissal during the team meeting, it was definitely an important wicket. I have worked a lot on my batting…whenever I’m free I practice in the nets.”
On the evolution of his bowling approach over the years, Kuldeep said: “Over the years, my mindset has changed a lot… I used to focus more on my performance and taking wickets but now my aim is good length bowling. Whenever I play ODI, Test Cricket or T20 matches my focus is on quality bowling.”
The leg-spinner thanked Chahal for his advice and bowling inputs. He added, “You played T20 and ODI and I switched from red-ball cricket to white-ball cricket…you have been playing with the team you know how to bowl…your inputs from the ground really helped me.”
Kuldeep signed off by expressing disappointment on not playing alongside Chahal, “We are unlucky that we are not playing together but your suggestions have proven to be effective for me.”
