Team India captain Rohit Sharma already confirmed that Ishan Kishan is not going to play in the opening ODI of the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in Guwahati on Tuesday (January 10).
The Indian skipper said that the Indian cricket team management decided to give Shubman Gill a long run in the ODI side, so Ishan will not get the opportunity in the first ODI against Sri Lanka, despite the youngster hammering the fastest ODI double century in history on the Bangladesh tour.
As it is clear that Rohit will open with Gill in Guwahati, the former Indian batter Aakash Chopra expressed his disappointment over the team’s decision.
Team India’s decision to drop Ishant from the side had already left many disappointed, and now Chopra has slammed the move in the best possible way. However, Ishan recently played in the T20I series against Sri Lanka at home.
Taking a jibe at the Indian team management, the cricket pundit compared Kishan's situation to that of Karun Nair, who was benched after scoring a Test triple-hundred and is still out of contention for the national selection.
Aakash Chopra took to Twitter to opine on the call by saying: “It’s not often that you score a double-century and get benched in the following game. But then, Indian cricket had benched the triple-centurion in the next game too. Ishan today. Karun Nair back then. #IndvSL #AakashVani.”
