Rahul Tripathi received his maiden India cap | BCCIRahul Tripathi earned his maiden India cap ahead of the second T20I against Sri Lanka at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Thursday (January 5).

Tripathi came into the playing XI in place of Sanju Samson, who sustained a knee injury while fielding in the opening T20I in Mumbai.

The 31-year-old received his debut cap from India’s batting coach, Vikram Rathour. He became the third oldest player to make his T20I debut for India's men's team after batting legends Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar.

On the back of his stunning exploits in the IPL, Tripathi received his first call-up to the India squad last year when the team travelled to Ireland for two T20Is. While he didn’t get an opportunity to play a game on that tour, he was part of the team’s scheme of things in the shortest format.

Now that he made his much-awaited India debut, Rahul Tripathi received congratulatory messages from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
