India batter Ishan Kishan on Tuesday (January 3) shared his first reaction to Rishabh Pant's near-fatal car crash on the Delhi-Dehradun expressway last week.
Pant's car collided with a divider and caught fire, forcing him to break the car window and get out of the vehicle. Luckily for the southpaw, a Haryana Roadways bus driver and conductor arrived at the spot of the accident immediately and helped him reach a hospital.
The wicketkeeper-batter is currently being treated at a hospital in Dehradun for multiple injuries to his head, back, and leg.
Days after Rishabh’s horrific accident, a video of Kishan reacting to the tragic news caught everyone’s attention on social media. The left-hander was playing for Jharkhand against Services in the 2022-23 edition of the Ranji Trophy when he was informed about Pant's car crash by a group of fans at the stadium.
Speaking to veteran commentator Harsha Bhogle ahead of India’s ongoing first T20I against Sri Lanka in Mumbai, Kishan said: “When I first heard the news, thought it was a normal accident and people are making a big thing out of it, but when I got to know, I was really scared. Don't know how fast my heartbeat was during the Ranji Trophy game. We wish him a speedy recovery and wish him all the best.”
In the series opener, Ishan Kishan scored 37 off 29 balls as the hosts posted 162/5 on the board after being asked to bat first. Opening the innings, he smashed 3 fours and 2 sixes in his knock.
