Former captain Virat Kohli joined an illustrious group of Indian cricketers to have played in 100 or more Test matches for the country. He became the 12th Indian overall to achieve this feat in the ongoing Test against Sri Lanka in Mohali.

Ahead of the match on Friday, March 4, Kohli was felicitated with a special cap by head coach Rahul Dravid. With the bat, the 33-year-old looked solid before he was cleaned up by left-arm spinner Lasith Embuldeniya on 45. The fans who came to watch him bat were left a tad disappointed as he was looking good to get that three-figure mark which has eluded him since 2019.

Kohli, who is India's most successful Test captain with 40 victories, recently quit the captaincy and is playing his red-ball match for India as a player in more than seven years.

India eventually declared its first innings at 574/8 with Ravindra Jadeja scoring career-best of 175* and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant making 96. R Ashwin and Hanuma Vihari also contributed with 61 and 58, respectively.

As the India came out to field post the Tea break on the second day, the team members gave a guard of honour to their former captain, who acknowledged the gesture light-heartedly.
