All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja starred with the bat for India on Day 2 of the opening Test against Sri Lanka at Mohali.
Jadeja was on 45* at stumps on Day 1 while the hosts posted 357/6 on board and the southpaw wreaked havoc on Sri Lankan bowlers on the second day.
Jadeja notched up his century, his second in Test cricket, in the morning session and it came off 160 deliveries.
After reaching the three-figure mark, the left-hander went berserk in the second session, hitting the visiting bowlers to all parts of the ground. He brought his 150 with a six over mid-off off Dhananjaya de Silva’s bowling and the milestone came in 211 balls.
Jadeja’s carnage didn’t stop there as he continued to torment the Lankan attack and scripted a few records in the process as well. He went past Kapil Dev’s score of 163 to bag the record of the highest score by an Indian at No. 7 in Test cricket.
Thanks to his whirlwind knock, India crossed the 550-run mark and eventually declared their first innings on 574/8 after 129.2 overs. Ravindra Jadeja stayed unbeaten on 175 off 228 balls and his knock was studded with 17 fours and 3 sixes.
For his herculean effort with the bat, Jadeja received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
