South Africa’s stand-in captain Keshav Maharaj won the toss in the second ODI against India which is being played at the JSCA International Stadium complex on October 9, 2022. The visitors lead the three-ODI series 1-0 after a 9-run win in the first match in Lucknow.
However, during the toss, match referee Javagal Srinath made a mistake and was central to a funny incident as he forgot to hand over the coin for the toss to the home captain, India’s Shikhar Dhawan.
It is the job of the match referee to give the hosts' captain (in this case, Dhawan) the toss at the time of the toss. However, Srinath seemingly forgot to do so before the toss procedure began. As soon as anchor Sanjay Manjrekar asked for the coin toss, Shikhar Dhawan quizzically asked Srinath for the coin.

Realizing his mistake, Srinath sheepishly smiled before taking the coin out of his pocket and handing it over to Dhawan and both the captains seemingly had some fun at the expense of the match referee.
