Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni has confirmed that he will play in the IPL 2023 as the team will return to their home ground of MA Chidambaram Stadium or Chepauk in Chennai. This happened as the BCCI confirmed that the IPL 2023 will be played on a home-and-away basis.
The 41-year-old cricketer, who was spotted coming out of Chennai airport on Friday evening, attended a franchise event recently, during which he confirmed that he would return to the iconic Chepauk Stadium in Chennai next year.
In the past three editions of the IPL, two have been played in UAE, IPL 2020 completely in the desert nation, while IPL 2021 was partially played in India and then in UAE due to the Covid pandemic. The IPL 2022 was played in India, but only in the state of Maharashtra across four venues- three in Mumbai and in Pune.
But the BCCI has said that IPL 2023 will go back to the team playing on a home and away basis as ICC allowed a bigger window for the 16th edition of the most popular T20 league in the world.
This means that Chennai Super Kings, the four-time IPL champions, will play at their home ground in Chepauk and MS Dhoni said that he will play in IPL 2023 as well.
The franchise’s official Twitter handle posted a picture of Dhoni from the event in which he can be seen surrounded by his fans and captioned it as, "We'll come back to Chepauk next year"- Anbuden Thala #WhistlePodu #Yellove."
The CSK fan club Twitter account posted a video of an event in which fans can be seen giving a loud cheer when MS Dhoni announced that ‘will be back in Chepauk’ for next season.
