The first ODI between India and South Africa began at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow after a lengthy rain delay, which reduced the game to 40 overs per side.
The Indian team led by Shikhar Dhawan will be clashing with Temba Bavuma’s South Africa, who are in desperate need of some ODI League points in order to qualify for the 2023 ICC World Cup.
Meanwhile, the toss saw India captain Dhawan calling correctly and choosing to bowl first. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravi Bishnoi made their ODI debuts for India, while both Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson were included in the XI.
After the toss, host Murali Kartik was doing the proceedings on the camera, and unknown to him, India pacer Deepak Chahar walked into the camera frame and stood behind him and the ODI trophy with a straight face expression.
