Former Australian speedster Brett Lee said that he was really surprised by the non-selection of India’s pace sensation Umran Malik and Australian all-rounder Cameron Green in their respective squads for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022, starting on October 16.

The legendary pacer said that he would really have loved to see Umran unleashed on pace-rich and bouncy pitches in Australia, as he had already impressed one and all with his fiery pace in the IPL 2022.

Brett Lee said on the sidelines of the LLC 2022 final:So, to me the big surprises of his T20 World Cup - Umran Malik for India, I think he should play. Cameron Green has to play for Australia. I can't fathom how Cameron Green isn't in the team.”

When he was asked whether bowlers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who rely on swing and movement, can be effective in Australia, Lee said that pace and bounce are important for bowlers, but it is more important to have control of the ball to get more success in Australia.

The former pacer further explained, “Pace and bounce are crucial but if you are bowling pace at the death and if you are going to bowl length, you are going to be taken down. So, pace up front is good, and pace at the back is good too but it also depends on how well you deliver and execute your plans.”

Lee signed off by saying, “So, the extra bounce is more so for the batsman, how the batsman handles the extra bit of bounce because the sub-continent batters aren't used to that pace and bounce.”
