After India’s 49-run defeat in the third T20I at Indore, skipper Rohit Sharma admitted that there is room for improvement as the team will now travel to Australia for the T20 World Cup 2022.

Opting to bowl first, the hosts conceded 227/3 in 20 overs and then were bowled out for 178 in 18.3 overs. Despite this heavy defeat, the Men in Blue clinched the three-T20I series 2-1.

“As a team we said at the beginning, no matter what happens with the result - there's always room for improvement. We want to keep getting better as a team. Teams have been quite challenging, they can challenge in all departments. Something we have been talking about at length. We need to look at lot of things,” Rohit said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

For his 119 runs in the series, including two half-centuries, Suryakumar Yadav was adjudged Player-of-the-Series.

Talking about the areas of concern, the Indian captain quipped: “Surya's form is a concern (laughs)” before adding, “We need to work on our bowling. We played against two quality sides, we came across tough challenges. We need to see what better we can do. We are working towards that, guys need a lot of clarity, it's my job to make sure it happens. It's a work in progress, we need to keep working and keep finding answers to it.”

“Lot of the guys haven't been to Australia, that's why we are going there early. We want to play on the bouncy pitches of Perth, we want to see what we can do there. Only 7,8 members of the squad have been to Australia, so we have organised a few practise games. We need to understand what combination we can play,” he further remarked.

Ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022, Team India have suffered a massive blow as ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the showpiece tournament with a back injury.

Speaking on the same line, Rohit said: “Bumrah is out of the World Cup; that will be a big miss. We need to find a guy, I don’t know who that guy is yet, there are a few guys.. we will make that call in Australia.”

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian squad is due to depart for Australia on October 6 while their T20 World Cup campaign will get underway on October 23 against arch-rivals Pakistan.
