India team fans were disappointed with the announcement of the national squad for the upcoming South Africa T20I series as the names of SRH and Maharashtra batter Rahul Tripathi and Kerala and RR batter Sanju Samson was missing from the 18-member contingent.
The senior players - Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested for the T20Is against the Proteas. KL Rahul has been appointed as the captain of the team. Young speedsters Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh received maiden India call-ups.
Dinesh Karthik is making a comeback for the Indian team once again, based on his batting performance for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Also coming back into the Indian team was all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
Rahul Tripathi has been in a tremendous batting form in IPL 2022 for SRH. Tripathi collected 413 runs in 13 games with a splendid strike rate of 158.24 and three half-centuries under his cap.
Considering the present batting form exhibited by Rahul Tripathi, fans expected Tripathi to be a member of the upcoming series.
On the other hand, Sanju Samson has captain Rajasthan Royals (RR) well as they finished second on the points table of IPL 2022 and will play Gujarat Titans in the first qualifier of the tournament. Even on the batting front, Samson had led from the front with 374 runs in 14 matches with 2 fifties at an average of 28.76 and strike rate of 147.24.
However, the All India Senior Selection Committee did not include either Tripathi nor Samson in the squad that was announced on Sunday.
Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh also conveyed his displeasure about Tripathi not being included in the squad.
