Resuming their second innings on 140/5, New Zealand on Monday (December 6) got bowled out for 167 to lose the Mumbai Test by 372 runs and concede the two-Test series 1-0 to India.
Jayant Yadav claimed four out of the remaining five wickets on Day to fold the Kiwi innings within the first hour on Day 4. While Jayant returned with the figures of 4-49 in the second essay, R Ashwin (4-34) also picked up four scalps and Akshar Patel (1-42) chipped in with a wicket.
It was a listless batting performance from the visitors for the second time in the match. Six of them in the line-up got out for a single-digit score and Daryl Mitchell top scored with 66.
Earlier, New Zealand were bundled out for a paltry 62 to concede a massive first-innings lead of 263 runs. The home team batted for 70 overs before declaring their second innings on 276/7, setting an improbable target of 540 for the BlackCaps in the last dig.
Opener Mayank Agarwal starred with the bat for India in both innings, scoring 150 and 62 whereas Ajaz Patel was the stand-out bowler for New Zealand, taking all 10 wickets in the first innings before picking four scalps in the second essay.
For their dominant display in the Mumbai Test, Team India received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
