The second Test between India and New Zealand, slated to be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, is likely to see 25 percent spectators at the venue.
According to a PTI report, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is pushing for more and trying to get the limit increased to 50 percent. The Wankhede stadium has a seating capacity of 30,000.
"As per the general order of the Maharashtra government signed by the chief secretary, 25 per cent crowd is allowed for the Wankhede Test as of now. MCA is still hopeful that they may give us 50 per cent crowd permission," the official said, as quoted by PTI.
Wankhede Stadium hasn’t hosted a Test match for almost five years. The last Test played at the venue was against England in December 2016.
The Test match against New Zealand will also mark the return of international cricket at the iconic venue after the COVID-19 pandemic brought sporting action to standstill last year.
The second Test is due to get underway in Mumbai on December 3. The first Test is currently being held in Kanpur right now.
The two-Test series is part of the second cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC), which kicked off with India’s tour to England in August-September.
